Being UU
Our Guiding Principles
We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
- Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
- Acceptance of one of another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
- The rights of conscience and the use of democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
Our Sources of Inspiration
At Prairie UU, we create a force more powerful than one person or one belief system. Rather than sharing a creed, we join together in covenant (a shared promise) to walk together on a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. We draw strength from a multitude of valuable traditions, including our Unitarian Universalist sources:
- Direct experience of the transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit, and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
- Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love;
- Wisdom from the world’s religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
- Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
- Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit;
- Spiritual teachings of the earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
Grateful for the religious pluralism which enriches and ennobles our faith, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and expand our vision. As free congregations, we enter into this covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.
Our Associations
We are a founding congregation of The Mountain Top UU. The Mountain Top UU aims to create energy around and inspire BIPOC people to build connections and begin the conversations to create and hold empowering and affirming space. We seek to continually challenge ourselves and one another to rethink, reimagine, and recenter Unitarian Universalist space.
Colorado UUs for Racial Justice
The CoUURJ is comprised of Unitarian Universalist ordained clergy, seminarians, religious faith/education professionals, church administrators, congregational music professionals, and lay leaders who are committed to anti-oppression work and dismantling white supremacy in our congregations and the larger community
Districts are governed by district Boards of Trustees, which develop district policy and support local congregations to encourage the growth, development, and extension of Unitarian Universalist ideals.
The Pacific Western Region of the UUA, which includes the Mountain Desert District and three other western regions. The Region provides a variety of webinars, workshops and programs to assist congregational life and development.
Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)
The UUA provides a variety of educational resources to UUA congregations and helps with leadership development. The UUA is a voluntary association of autonomous, self-governing local churches and fellowships that have freely chosen to pursue common goals together. The Association’s polity is congregational; association decisions are made by congregational delegates in business sessions at the annual General Assembly (GA).
