One Sunday each month, Prairie members and their guests put their faith into action by working for justice in the community. As Unitarian Universalists, our faith calls us to be agents of social change. Guided by our principles, we connect to that which is larger than ourselves and discover how that connection transforms us and calls us to walk beside our partners as we endeavor to create the Beloved Community. The Prairie Justice League typically plans the service based on suggestions and recommendations from the congregation.

Emergency Food Drive

In August 2018, as part of our commitment to Economic Justice, we helped gather more than 800 pounds of food from the congregation and community to help stock the pantry of Parker Task Force (PTF) as it responded to urgent needs in the community. We distributed bags to the neighborhood, picked them up a few days later, and promptly delivered to PTF. Learn more about PTF at parkertaskforce.org.

Tie a Yellow Ribbon on Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, 2018, we helped to prepare the resting places of fallen veterans for their Memorial Day tribute.

We created decorations for grave markers. Then, we traveled to the J.S. Parker Cemetery (10375 S Parker Road), to pay our respects, decorate headstones, and tidy up.

Drifter’s Hearts of Hope

One Sunday we helped clean the stables and grounds at Drifter’s Hearts of Hope – a nonprofit organization committed to saving slaughter-bound horses and providing opportunities for special needs youth in Colorado. Check it out at www.driftersheartsofhope.org

Laundry with Aurora Warms the Night

One Sunday, as part our ongoing commitment to Economic Justice, Prairie spent, Prairie spent the afternoon with homeless families and friends, helping them with washing, drying, and folding clothes, providing conversation and companionship while building positive relationships.
