Kim grew up in Chicago and was educated at the University of Illinois and Miami University of Ohio. Between her undergraduate and postgraduate work, Kim served in the Peace Corps in Honduras where she taught fish farming to small mountain communities to help increase protein intake in the local diet. Kim’s professional career began in academia teaching creative writing, but upon starting a family, shifted her writing focus to the financial services and philanthropy sectors, where she led marcom efforts at various high-profile institutions.

Kim was raised Jewish but practiced no religion as a young adult. Upon meeting Maurice, Kim explored several religions and settled on UUism, which she has been engaged with for more than 30 years. She has attended Prairie for seven years and has served as co-chair of the Justice League, Board Secretary, and currently, Board President. Kim also serves on the Board of Trustees for the national UUSJ.
