Prairie appreciates your help! Most committees are well established and you’ll be working along side of the team in place. Our policy is one where we always have room for another person on our team. The following is a list of committees that as a new Friend or Member, you may serve on. Please reach out to Leslie W. with any questions that arise. We’re always here to help!
Fundraising Committee
The Fundraising Committee oversees all income raised for PUUC. Fundraising is responsible for facilitating special events and activities throughout the year including pledges, the annual auction & garage sale, gift card sales, and supporting the Endowment committee. Fundraising activates a task force for the building fund when needed. Manages & holds the schedule of yearly/reoccurring events.
Stewardship/Annual Canvass (Pledge Committee)
The Stewardship/Annual Canvass Committee is responsible for communicating with members to secure the ongoing pledge commitments needed to support the costs of running the church. They manage an annual fundraising canvass and meet with new members to help make giving easy and tailored to everyone. The objective is to meet all general operating expenses through pledged giving.
Auction Committee
Our annual auction is our largest fundraising event of the year. The Auction team manages the goals, software, and event to raise funds through the donated goods, services, travel accommodations, and biddable activities. The event is generally a sit-down style dinner with silent & live auction bidding activities.
Marketing Committee
The Marketing Committee creates, manages, and tracks results of the outreach plan to bring in new members and have a presence in the community.
CORE Committee (Committee of Religious Education)
The Core Team oversees all of Prairie’s worship services, working with both minister-led and lay-led services. They coordinate guest speakers, alter aesthetics, provide instruction and training, as well as communicate with the administrator** to advertise up-coming services. They consult with the Director of Religious Education** (vacant), coordinate the sound system & recording of the Sunday services, and coordinate with the Music Director**, Pianist**, and Choir as needed. Guides in the selection and holds the digital Hymn slides for use at Sunday services.Meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 3:30PM on Zoom.
Caring Circle Committee (operates under CORE)
The Caring Circle offers support and assistance to Prairie community members experiencing life changes or challenges. They coordinate cards, phone calls, hospital visits, rides, meals, and other needs. The Caring Circle is also responsible for coordinating notes on Candles of Community and ensuring that the guidelines are followed by the community.
Religious Education Committee (RE) (Lifespan)
RE, in partnership with the RE Coordinator**, develops and oversees all of Prairie’s educational programming (Lifespan), both youth and adult. Coordinates the many ways to be involved in education as a teacher, a mentor, an activity leader, and more. RE guides faith & spiritual development of the congregation. RE is the holder of the Rituals offered at Prairie: Dedication, OWL, Coming of Age, weddings, and memorial/funeral services. Brunch Bunch meets monthly. The RE Committee meets monthly.
Camp Oversight Committee
Camp oversight arranges dates & venue, plans programming, and organizes volunteers for youth camping trips throughout the year. Meets yearly or as needed.
Membership Committee
Membership oversees all Visitor, Greeter, and Member systems to ensure that every member and guest of Prairie is warmly greeted, guided through their spiritual path to Friend/Member of PUUC, and offered monthly social engagements. Membership keeps our database (Breeze) updated, notifies PUUC leadership of newcomers, holds Newcomer/Member classes, and oversees hospitality in the setup and takedown of Sunday services. Meets monthly on the first Sunday after service 12-1 @ the Parker Library.
Hospitality and Setup Team
Lead the Sunday service setup & takedown (coordinating with the one rotating Board member & rotating Greeters) Set up the Fellowship Hour snack area. Provide napkins, coffee, and cream & sugars, the snack schedule for the congregation, and training guides for the venue including a hardcopy & digital diagram of the floor plan (to be housed in the Greeter backpack). Does not meet regularly.
Communication & Public Relations Committee (the Voice of Prairie)
The Communication & Public Relations Team is responsible for vision and outreach related to our website, newsletters, social media, weekly bulletins, press releases and advertising. They work closely with our church Administrator** and other committees to provide Prairie news and information to the greater community as well as to Prairie members. Meets monthly.
Justice League Committee
The Justice League is an active group that seeks to provide opportunities for the congregation to act on our collective UU values to make our community and our world a better place – for everyone. The Justice League coordinates social and environmental justice support opportunities for Prairie members through activism, involvement, and education. We meet to review, discuss, create, and support initiatives that promote social justice. The Prairie Justice League also seeks to raise awareness about and engage members in the social justice initiatives of the UUA. Some current actions are with the Parker Task Force Food Bank, Ready to Work advocacy, space clean up, and anti-racism work. Holds the schedule for “share the plate”.
Habitat Interfaith Alliance
Prairie is an active member of the Denver area Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Alliance. We are one of thirteen member congregations, participating regularly in home builds and fundraisers. Meets monthly in conjunction with HIA.
