Notes from Pastor AJ – September 2020

September 28, 2020

Dear Beluvs …

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you to let you know of the passing of a member of our larger PrairieUU community, Rev Jann Halloran’s son-in-law, Milandu Silwebbe on September 21, 2020. We have been in contact with Rev Jann and have sent condolences on behalf of our entire PrairieUU family.

We are also asking that if you are able that you support the family with a small contribution to assist in having Milandu Silwebbe’s body returned home to Zambia. The family has set-up a gofundme page to help with the costs of transporting Milandu Silwebbe and also Catherine with medical bills that were incurred. If you would like to send a message to the family or assist financially, please do so via the gofundme account. If you have any other concerns or needs please let me know.

Dear Beluvs …

We have lots of exciting news to share with you about our Fall 2020 Sunday Morning Experience.

First, you will notice this Sunday that our worship service will have a new flow and feel. The service will feature more music and a larger celebratory welcoming feel to its format. It will also be the first week of using Soul Matters our monthly theme-based program. Soul Matters is a subscription service that will assist in guiding us through Sunday Morning Worship and Learning Hour for our Children, Youth, Adults. As we move forward we will also be making Soul Matters available to all of our small groups and committees.

Second, the LifeSpan team would like to propose that starting in October we introduce a new Sunday Morning Experience schedule and flow.

9:30 Children’s LifeSpan (K-5)

10:15 Gathering Time

10:30 Service (children leave by 11:00 and are done for the day)

11:30 Candles of Community

11:45 Youth (6-12) and Adult LifeSpan or Fellowship or Meeting etc.

12:30 End of Day

We are of the hope that this will help us to provide us an opportunity to better serve our littles and to center them more in our Sunday Morning Experience. Our current flow asks our children to attend first half of Worship and then come back for Learning Hour and also “bumps” children’s programming when we have larger congregational events such as congregational meetings. Our new (proposed) flow will ask our littles to attend Learning Hour and then be dismissed from worship midway through. They would be finished at approximately 11:00 am. Additionally, this would prevent conflicts with adult programming.

Please remember that I continue to be available for pastoral care, conversations, and connections. I am available to chat, catch up etc. Please continue to schedule appointments, and calls with me. You can schedule a time via my Google Calendar or call/text me at 720-549-0531.

Dear Beluvs …

We have been working hard on a new service format for Sunday morning Worship beginning September 13th. Soul Matters is the new theme-based monthly program that we will be using and we are very excited about the depth and the all church focus that it will bring to PrairieUU. We will also be incorporating more music and a celebratory welcoming feel to the service.

Please join us this Sunday, September 6th at 6:30 pm for the Front Range UU People of Color – Speaker Series featuring nationally known UU Religious People of Color as we explore what it means to be Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPoC) in the UUA and the Larger Community. Reverend Sofia Betancourt, Associate Professor of UU Theologies and Ethics – Starr King School for the Ministry and former UUA Co-President, is the Speaker on September 6.Register here.
